FAQ

FAQ

What are allergies?

An allergy is your body’s immune system reaction to a foreign substance. There are many common allergens such as dust, pets, environmental allergens like weeds and pollen, food allergies like peanuts and allergies to medication. Seasonal allergies are common during seasons changing (especially common in the fall and spring) and are often caused by pollen, hayfever, weeds, grass ragweed and more. Symptoms can last days to weeks and can include itchy and runny eyes and nose, sneezing, and dry throat.

What different treatments do you offer?

We offer three options for antihistamines depending on your symptoms:

  1. Oral medications – these work best when you have multiple symptoms. If you know your usual allergy triggers, try to take your medication at least 24 hours before. If you tend to have seasonal allergies for multiple weeks of the year in the fall or spring, it is best to take the medication everyday for that time period.

  2. Nasal antihistamines – nasal antihistamines are great for moderate to severe nasal congestion and blockage. They also are a good and effective option if you only have nasal symptoms

  3.  Eye drops with antihistamines – Eye drops containing antihistamine provide relief to dry and itchy eyes. They are very effective if that is your main symptom.

Depending on the severity of your allergies and your symptoms you may be prescribed one or all of these treatments to reduce your allergy symptoms.
